I do think, though, empty likes are still a form of validation. They give a feeling of being seen even if not actual followers come from it. It may be empty to some, but to others it may be the difference of 'normal one cares' to 'someone sees me.'
Being on the internet actually IS a form of "looking for validation." It's inevitable; it's a part of what we are as humans. Got a book planned on that topic, but in a year or so. There are still urgent topics to be explored.
By the way - wrote a book on this topic already, it's coming out in January.
